About Pemba Island woodlands.
A compact, biologically-rich forest reserve on Pemba Island (Zanzibar) protecting lowland woodland, coastal mangroves and key habitat for endemic species such as the Pemba flying fox.
The Pemba Island woodlands comprise remaining patches of indigenous forest and associated mangrove fringes on Pemba Island. These woodlands host endemic and near-endemic flora and fauna, are important for birdlife and fruit bats, and sit near traditional clove plantations and small fishing/market towns. The reserve offers short walking trails, good opportunities for birdwatching and nature photography, and easy access to coastal snorkeling sites nearby.
